One of the top export fishery item, eel is dropping nearly 50 percent compare to last year.
“The eel export dropped from 12000MT to 7000 MT this year. Because the eel resource become less and less. The collectors catch and trade the very small size which is as small as a finger size. So the eel didn’t have a chance to grown up and reproduce” said Dr. Toe Nandar Tin, Vice Chairman of Myanmar Fishery Federation.
“These fishes (eel) become less in the wild. The collectors need to have collector licenses. If they don’t have, DOF will take action on that. The eel become rare in the wild so we need to conserve it” said U Tun Win Myint, Director of Yangon Region Department of Fishery.
To conserve the eel, the hatching of eel is under research by Myanmar Fishery federation. The experts from the foreign countries are invited and the method will be distributed to the other farmers.
